PG Podcast 13 - Lindsey Kuper on a new kind of computing conference
August 2016 (perspective of an assistant professor)
Lindsey Kuper (@lindsey) is a programming languages researcher at Intel Labs and also a prolific blogger. I first learned about Lindsey's work and writings since we were both residents at the Recurse Center (although not at the same time).
In this PG Podcast (which is actually the first time we've ever spoken!), we talk about how Lindsey co-founded a new kind of computing conference called !!Con (pronounced “bang bang con”) that's different than both traditional academic and industry conferences. We discuss what makes !!Con so unique, and the challenges of organizing an event with a limited budget and geographically-distributed team. To me, this is a great example of how a small group of volunteers can come together to create something joyful and meaningful around their shared interests.
