PG Podcast 21 - Trey Hunner on teaching programming to working professionals
January 2017 (perspective of an assistant professor)
Trey Hunner (@treyhunner) is a programming trainer who teaches Python-based technologies to working professionals at companies across the U.S. He is also a notable figure in the San Diego Python community and is currently a director at the Python Software Foundation. Trey first got in touch with me a few months ago via Twitter/email since he saw that I had recently moved to San Diego and was interested in Python + education.
In this PG Podcast (which is actually the first time we've spoken!), we start by talking about Trey's job of teaching programming to professionals at company training workshops. We compare and contrast this kind of teaching with traditional curricula in academic K-12 and university settings. Then we dive into the backstory of how he started down this line of work and conclude with his advice for college students who are considering this path.
